Family Vet enjoyed the company of approximately 17 young ladies today of the local Brownie Troop from South Riding and Stone Ridge. They came by for a tour and ended up adopting Piper, if only for an hour! Piper was afraid at first of all the new faces, and the "practice" exam that Dr. Chau demonstrated for the groups. The Troop made him feel comfortable though, and they passed him from 1 to the next. He'll feel so deprived when there's so few tomorrow fighting over him!
The troop was able to test their pulses on the Pulse Oximeter, identifying oxygen levels and their heart rate. We talked about how increased respiration from exercise leads to increased heart rate. They also got to view X-rays and identify fractured bone in one of our puppy patients who recently had an accident.
Our thanks go to the whole Troop who paid such close attention to Dr. Chau and Sr. Technician Margaret. They asked very good questions and were so polite. If one or more grows up to be a veterinarian, pets will surely be better for it. Thanks as well to the group leader Ms. Cindy Rhodes! Everyone had a great time!
