Dr. Chau notices increase in ear infections

Dr. Chau noted today that there has been an increased rate of ear infections in pets lately.  She noted that allergies are a major contributor to ear infections, and the tree pollen rates in Virginia are on the rise.

Signs of allergies include: licking or chewing at paws or rear end, ear rubbing, face rubbing, itchiness, tearing, coughing, and scaly skin.

Prevention or treatment of allergies include: frequent bathing, anti-histamines, allergy testing and vaccinations, air purifiers, keeping pets indoors during high-allergen days.

If you think your pet might have allergies, bring him or her in to have them evaluated by Dr. Chau.
