The incidence of Lyme disease in Loudoun County is about 20 times greater than that of the Virginia average. In 2008 we had the third highest average in the nation. Lyme disease can affect pets differently. Some animals may display no symptoms while other animals may develop fever, loss of appetite, painful joints, lethargy, and vomiting. If left untreated damage to the eyes, heart, kidneys, and nervous system may develop. Lyme disease has been diagnosed in humans, dogs, cats, horses, goats, and cattle. Other species may also be at risk. On Monday August 8 at 11am Dr.Chau will be conducting a "Pet Chat" on Lyme disease for Northern Virginia Magazine. Anyone who is interested in listening or may have questions can go to http://www.northernvirginiamag.com/pets-chat/.
